NANOFILTRATION & ULTRAFILTRATION PLANTS FOR SUGAR APPLICATIONS
SUGAR CONCENTRATION:-
Nanofiltration membranes are used in sugar concentration applications where traditional heat concentration processes are inefficient. Sharp molecular weight cut-off of NF membranes provides excellent sugar rejection at low feed pressures. Typical operating parameters are as follows:
| Sugar Concentration | Temperature (°C) | Pressure (psig) | Operating flux (GFD) | Sugar Rejection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12% | 40 | 600 | 15 | 99.15 |
SUGAR CLARIFICATION:-
Thin film ultrafiltration membranes are used to clarify sugar streams. The sharp molecular weight cut off enables rejection of colour, tannins & undesirable organic compounds while transmitting sugars to the permeate side. Typical UF membrane performance is as follows:
| Substance | Molecular Weight | % Rejection |
|---|---|---|
| NaCl | 58.5 | 4 |
| Sucrose | 342 | 3 |
| Dextran | 2000 | 40 |
| 6000 | 90 |
