Tertiary Treatment
Tertiary treatment is the next wastewater treatment process after secondary treatment. This step removes stubborn contaminants that secondary treatment is not able to clean up. Wastewater effluent becomes even cleaner in this treatment process through the use of treatment systems like filtration, chlorination, adsorption, and oxidation.
Filtration
Filtration removes the suspended solids carry forward from the upstream. It is achieved by the use of sand filters like pressure sand filter, multigrade sand filter, autovalveless gravity sand filter, etc
Disinfection by Chlorination / Ozonation
Chlorination is used for disinfection. It removes the microbes, BOD and COD carry forward from the secondary process.
Adsorption
Adsorption removes the excess of chlorine added in the primary stage as well as also reduces BOD to some extent. It is achieved by the use of activated carbon filter.
